SESSION Details
Opening the Black Box - Machine Learning on Azure
Everyone has heard of the term “Machine Learning”, but often this can be a bit of a black box. We see impactful examples of machine learning everywhere, but many people are not sure of how to get started in using it themselves.
In this course, we are going to teach you how to easily build your own machine learning solutions using two powerful Azure tools – Azure Machine Learning and Azure Databricks. The session will be interactive and you will get hands-on experience designing solutions for a range of interesting machine learning use cases.
No prior knowledge of data science or of these specific tools is required.
You will also get the chance to win an Oculus VR Headset in our Pop Quiz at the end of the session!

Q&As
Short Description
- Learn the fundamentals of building machine learning solutions in Azure
Should delegates bring a laptop with them?
- Yes
If so what Spec?
- All cloud-based labs so will not require specific specs
What software and licences do they need?
- An Azure account WITH CONTRIBUTOR ACCESS (i.e. able to create resources) will be required to take part in this session. If you have an existing Azure account that can be used to provision and run the resources required in this session, then please feel free to use this.
If not, please set up a free trial account on Azure at the following link https://azure.microsoft.com/en-gb/free/, and then clicking on the Start Free button. You have to fill in your details, but your card will not be charged.
You will also be able to download all of the content for the day in a zip file at this link - https://sqlbitsblobstorage.blob.core.windows.net/sqlbitscontent/Opening%20The%20Black%20Box%20-%20ML%20on%20Azure.zip. This will be made available closer to the time.
What is the structure of the day?
- 0930 – ML and AI Fundamentals
1030 – AML interactive lab
1245 – LUNCH
1340 – Databricks ML hands-on lab
1710 – Recap
1720 – Pop Quiz
1730 – Q&A + Feedback
This is to provide an idea of our agenda for the day. Specifics are open to change.
What internet requirements do the delegates have?
- Good internet connection
What will the delegates get out of the day?
- - Understand fundamentals of machine learning, types of algorithms, and their use cases
- Learn to use Azure ML and Azure Databricks to build ML solutions to real-world problems
- Provide the skills and knowledge to further explore data science
- The chance to win an Oculus VR Headset in our Pop Quiz!
