Long-time SQLBits helper Robert French (@SqlBobScot) tells us about his decision to join the Bits Buddies – a new idea being trialed at SQLBits Arcade.
We are here to help you have a fantastic experience at SQLBits and give you that person to talk to and ask about all things SQLBits! Do you need someone you can talk to about the social side of SQLBits? Do you know about the game’s night, pub quiz and party? Ask a SQLBits Buddy!
Perhaps you’d like a group of people to go for dinner with, where you can all share your experiences at different community events? Maybe, you’d just like a chat during the day? You can come along and meet us at the Community Zone! Join a bunch of like-minded people at SQLBits, and leave with a new great bunch of friends.
Why are we doing this?
First, we want to make it an event you will remember for all the best reasons. Second, to make SQLBits the event you cannot wait to bring your friends and colleagues back to next year. Third, we want to make you feel like one of us. Fourth, we want to help you make new connections and maybe some new friends.
Do you have some questions you want to ask right now, as you read this?
Well, we have a suggestion for that. Click here! . Grab a free ticket and drop in for a chat with some of the SQLBits Buddies. We are there to answer any, and all questions you might have about SQLBits. What better way is there to get answers to your questions, while meeting a friendly face you could say hello to at SQLBits!
Now it’s time to meet our amazing SQLBits Buddies…
Victoria is an Enterprise Data Architect at Coeo, founder of Data Toboggan and on the SQL Saturday board of directors. A regular helper at SQLBits and attended every SQLBits. She loves being a part of the data platform community and has spent a number of years completing a part-time research PhD looking at best practice and database systems management. She graciously received the AOUG Will Swann Award for Innovations and Knowledge Development for the Research and is a Microsoft Data Platform MVP. Victoria fills her spare time playing the trombone in orchestras, a trombone quartet, and sometimes a big band.
Malcolm has been working with data since 2000, collecting call stats on an IT Helpdesk with Access. Then worked with DB2 & Business Objects (SAP) on a government project before moving to Microsoft SQL Server, version 2000, and later, in social housing and education sectors. In 2018, he moved overseas to an online auction company, as a DBA he managed the upgrade to Microsoft SQL 2019 and integration with Microsoft Flow (Power Automate) for alerting. He is currently based in Hong Kong as a Data Architect for a mobile gaming company, looking after the hybrid OnPrem (legacy services) / Azure (new services) / AWS (BI stack) platform!
Malcolm has been lucky to attend SQLBits a number of times, joining us as an attendee and as a helper. SQLBits gave him the chance to get a combination of training and networking to help him develop personally and professionally, even giving him the confidence to get his first job working away from the UK and Europe. Make sure to keep an eye out for Malcolm and the Surface Go he won as a sponsor prize back in 2019!

Since you have read this far, we would like to share a little secret. We are just like you. We all know how easy it is to feel left out, even in a crowd. So, we wanted to do something about that; hence we want to meet you. Chat with you, get to know and hopefully, make you feel like one of us; as a result, you leave feeling a part of the #SQLFamily. If you want to contact any of the Bits Buddies before the event, and outside of the meet and chat sessions, please feel free to get in touch with any of them!
